License

All Nabh products are distributed under the Free Software Foundation's GNU General Public License (commonly known as the "GPL"). In addition, Nabh also offers a commercial license for Stringbeans Portal. Details of the "dual" license for Stringbeans Portal are described below.

With the GPL license, Stringbeans is available free of charge. Users may download the software for free and modify, integrate and distribute it. However, GPL users must make complete source code for their application available for redistribution if a Stringbeans-based application is redistributed.

Nabh offers a commercial license for organizations that do not want to release the source code for their application. Commercial license customers are freed from the requirement that their Stringbeans-based software must be "open sourced". Nabh is able to provide a commercial license because it has full ownership of the Stringbeans portal framework code. Please note that obtaining a commercial license for Stringbeans portal DOES NOT free you from the licensing requirements of any third party portlets deployed within your application.

Stringbeans GPL License

The GPL Open Source License allows you to offer your software under an open source / free software license to all who wish to use, modify, and distribute it freely. The Open Source License allows you to use the software at no charge under the condition that if you use Stringbeans portal in an application you redistribute, the complete source code for your application must be available and freely redistributable under reasonable conditions. Nabh bases its interpretation of the GPL on the Free Software Foundation's Frequently Asked Questions.

In general you can use Stringbeans portal under GPL if the following conditions apply:
  • If your application is licensed under GPL or compatible OSI (Open Source Initiative) license, you are free to ship any GPL software of Nabh with your application ('application' means any type of software application, system, tool or utility). We do encourage you to contact us to explore partnership opportunities.
  • As long as you do not distribute (internally or externally) the Stringbeans portal software in any way, you are free to use it for building your application, irrespective of whether your application is under GPL license or not.
  • You are allowed to modify Stringbeans portal Software source code any way you like as long as the distributed derivative work is also licensed under the GPL.

Stringbeans Commercial License

When your application is not licensed under either the GPL-compatible Free Software License as defined by the Free Software Foundation or approved by OSI, and you intend to or you may distribute Stringbeans software, you must first obtain a commercial license from Nabh. More specifically, you need a commercial license if any one of the following conditions applies to your usage of Stringbeans portal.

  • If you include Stringbeans portal server with an application that is not licensed under the GPL or GPL-compatible license, you need a commercial license for the Stringbeans portal server.
  • If you develop and distribute a commercial application and as part of utilizing your application, the end-user must download a copy of Stringbeans; for each derivative work, you (or, in some cases, your end-user) need a commercial license for the Stringbeans portal server and/or Stringbeans client libraries.
  • If you distribute Stringbeans Software within your organization, you should purchase a commercial license. Please visit our store for more information about the commercial licenses pricing.
